Luís Figo in an interview with Diário de Notícias
How did you get the idea to create a Foundation and what was the main reason behind it?
The idea spawned about 8 years ago. At the time, I was playing football professionally and had an immense media exposure. It was at that time that I considered making the best of that exposure and help young people, by making the best out of the fact that I was a professional athlete and was regarded as a role model. The Foundation itself, which started in March of 2003, was making all of that real, and putting our social responsibility and awareness to work, whose goal is to help children and youngsters in need.
What does the FLF consist of?
The Foundation has a board of directors, of which I am president, and a daily management that is almost autonomous that is run by a team of people. It develops work in the areas of health, education, sports and social action, and its mission and goal is to be a direct part of programs and social intervention projects with children and young people up to the age of 15 years old who, because they are ill or social outcasts, handicapped or not, or that who, because of their socioeconomic situation, live limited lives in all sorts of areas.
