FLF – TEIP – "For a Better 2014"

Luis Figo Foundation has launched a new project on the area of Education to support students of the professional Course of Sports Management Support.

"For a Better 2014" was presented by Luís Figo Foundation, on March 20, at the College of Human Kinetics, in Lisbon.

This project falls within the protocol signed in 2007 between the Luis Figo Foundation and the Ministry of Education to support the Educational Territories of Priority Intervention - TEIP. This program aims to increase the level of student motivation for studies, preventing school failure and dropout.

This presentation session of the Project, with the presence of Luis Figo and other personalities from the world of sports - Monica Jorge, José Peseiro, João Coimbra and Jose Manuel Delgado - who gave their testimony related to their academic and professional lives, in order to motivate students to continue their studies.

To the 150 students, was also presented by one of the psychologists of the TEIP Program and for one of the Coordinators of the Professional Course of Sports Management Support, teachers of the school groups involved in this project, the current landscape of professional opportunities that these courses could provide them.nimFh

In order to create conditions to promote school attendance until university, Luís Figo Foundation will accompany the students who started this year the tenth year of schooling, until 2014, giving scholarships to the best students of each of these classes, so that they can attend to higher education by funding their tuition.

Sara Souto, Manager Director of the Foundation, said: "With this new project “For a Better 2014”, we want to give them the tools to make out of these students better adults, both in human and professional aspects, encouraging them and making them believe that the university can be, and is, possible to everyone”.In addition to support the university frequency, Luís Figo Foundation aims to motivate students with a range of incentives, rewarding each year those showing the best school results and also the best effort and progress by regulation prepared by the Direction of the Ministry of Education and Science.At the end of the tenth year of schooling, the Foundation will offer to the selected students a week in a “Summer University”, organized by the Faculty of Sport Sciences, University of Coimbra and in the following year, will give them the opportunity to experience the life of professionals connected to the world of sport.

The presentation session, apart from the presence of students, was attended by the Deputy-Director of the Direction of the Ministry of Education and Science, Dr Luis Filipe Santos, President of the Faculty of Human Kinetics, Prof. Dr. Carlos Neto, Director of the School of Sport Science and Physical Education, University of Coimbra, Prof. Dr. António Figueiredo, and directors of the school groups involved.
